Ange Postecoglou wins another manager of the year award for his work with Celtic
As his Celtic side prepares to celebrate winning the Scottish Premiership, Ange Postecoglou has earnt another coaching gong.
Ange Postecoglou’s outstanding debut season with champions-in-waiting Celtic continues to earn him accolades, with the former Socceroos coach winning the Scottish Football Writers’ Association manager of the year award.
Postecoglou’s latest gong comes a week after he was named the PFA Scotland manager of year.
With two rounds of the season remaining, Celtic – who last season finished 25 points behind Rangers – are six points clear at the top of table and have a 20-goal better for-and-against record than second-placed Rangers.
Official confirmation of the title could come as early as Thursday morning (AEDT) when Celtic travels to Tannadice to meet Dundee United, and Rangers host Ross County.
“We’ve had a few good weekends, we’ve been pretty consistent over a while and the players have been outstanding in their commitment to playing our football,” said Postecoglou, who also guided the Hoops to Scottish League Cup glory in December.
“Everyone committed to something and we’ve had a few bumps along the road, but the whole staff and players embraced every challenge and stuck to the beliefs we have in the football club we want to be.
“You have to have belief in yourself in what you’re about to embark on, but it’s not just about believing in something, you have to work hard for it and we’ve worked awfully hard.”
Postecoglou, who took charge of the Hoops in June 2021, said he was “very proud” and “humbled” to receive his latest award.
“There’s been a number of outstanding performances from managers this year and I’m really pleased to receive it, but I also acknowledge I’ve had tremendous support from everyone at the football club and the players have been outstanding,” he said.
Postecoglou also warned rivals to expect further improvement in Celtic next season.
“We have to be better next year irrespective of what happened this year,” he said.
“The way I want teams to play and the training process takes a while for people to get into and I’m hoping next year we will be a stronger team, and I look forward to what that brings.”
