Ange Postecoglou dropped a new iconic quote on Tottenham’s open-top bus parade through north London on Friday as he delivered a telling hint on his coaching future.

Spurs’ 1-0 win in the over fallen powerhouse Manchester United in the Europa League final on Wednesday ended the club’s 17-year trophy drought.

It marked the long-suffering club’s first trophy since the 2008 League Cup and its first European honour since claiming the previous version of the Europa League, the UEFA Cup, way back in 1984.

Across an otherwise disastrous campaign, with Tottenham currently 17th in the Premier League above only the three already relegated teams, Postecoglou maintained his mantra that he always wins a trophy in his second season.

The 59-year-old famously declared on the eve of this season: “Usually in my second season I win things.

“I’ll correct myself. I don’t usually win things – I always win things in my second year.

“Nothing’s changed. I’ve said it now. I don’t say things unless I believe them.”

While even the most committed Spurs fan must have doubted that declaration at times, Postecoglou came through with the goods to claim a title that no one saw coming.

And it didn’t take long for Postecoglou to deliver yet another iconic quote, as he addressed around 150,000 loyal Spurs fans who came out in force to celebrate the club’s first trophy in almost two decades.

“And I’ll tell you something and leave you with this. All the best television series, season 3 is better than season 2,” Postecoglou proclaimed as Tottenham fans cheered the Aussie manager.

His comment came as Graham Roberts, a member of the Tottenham team that won the 1984 UEFA Cup, backed his old club to claim more silverware in the years to come.

“This will give them belief now. All that pressure that was there, that’s gone,” Roberts said.

“We have to strengthen our squad, but I think we have a great bunch of boys. “They love Ange, they went round him, they cuddled him, they wanted him in the photos. The team spirit is there.

“We’ll get more now, the rest will come. Wednesday was one of the greatest nights. I had tears in my eyes. The fans were magnificent. They deserve it.”

Ange Postecoglou still could be sacked despite Europa League glory

However, whether or not Postecoglou will even be able to deliver on his promise that season three will be even better remains unclear, with multiple reports he is still likely to be sacked.

And sadly that news will come as no surprise to Postecoglou who was all but resigned to the fact he was gone ahead of the Europa League final.

“My future is assured,” Postecoglou said, unmoved by the latest round of questioning about being sacked.

“I wouldn’t be the first person who changes jobs. “We all change jobs. I’m sure you’ve had more than one job. My future is assured. I’ve got a beautiful family, I’ve got a great life.

“I’ll keep on winning trophies until I finish, wherever that is. Don’t worry about my future mate.”

It has been reported by the UK press that Tottenham are considering making moves to appoint former Ajax coach Francesco Farioli or Brentford manager Thomas Frank as the new Spurs head coach.

But no one is exactly sure what Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is thinking, so for now all Postecoglou can do is enjoy the win and cross his fingers that he has done enough to keep his job for next season.
