MATILDAS spots are still up for grabs, according to star Melbourne City attacker Marianna Tabain who hopes to force her way in with a stellar finals series.
City hosts Brisbane Roar in Monday’s W-League semi-final (4.30pm) at AAMI Park, hoping to continue their undefeated streak.
Tabain, who’s had a Matildas call-up but never won a cap, believes national coach Alen Stajcic hasn’t finalised his squad for the Rio 2016 qualifiers in Japan starting late February.
“I think the door’s still open,’’ Tabain said.
“That’s everyone’s aspiration (to play for Australia), it’s been a goal for a long time. I’ve been to a few camps but haven’t been called up for almost a year.
“I really hope so (to have a good finals), that’s when the big players step up.
“I had Staj in the Young Matildas and he was a great coach and I’ll keep trying to do my best and hopefully it happens.’’
The attacker’s move from Perth Glory has been justified, playing a key role in a star-studded team, netting seven goals.
Tabain, 23, had to defer her primary school teaching degree to switch but she has no regrets and hoped to win a maiden title.

“It’s been the right decision, Joe (Montmurro) is fantastic and it’s been a wonderful season so far and we hope to continue,’’ she said.
“I have but haven’t cracked the big time, hopefully this is the year.
“There’s a main focus when it comes to finals, more people are interested and it’s a big year for us.’’
