DIMAS, Nichols, Andreu — they’re the Wanderers’ DNA.
Dimas, Mitch Nichols and Andreu only joined Western Sydney at the start of the season, but their influence has already been immense.
Nichols and Dimas have started all seven games so far this campaign, Nichols is the club’s leading scorer with three goals, while Andreu, who has played six games, has netted twice.
They’re in great form and combining well, but Andreu says that all comes down to “feeling good” on and off the field. The Wanderers are also on a winning streak — today against they Central Coast Mariners they have a chance to make it five in row — which means they’re enjoying their football too.
“We are feeling really good, not just with Dimas or Mitch, but it’s true that the team is in the same way and we are feeling good in every game,” Andreu said. “You can see the results — we’ve won the last four games and the reason is because we are doing good and feeling good.”
Andreu is enjoying playing alongside his Spanish compatriot Dimas, while in front of him he has the “clever” Nichols always looking to get in behind the opposition defence.
“Mitch is a really good player and good boy. He’s very clever — he moves really well in front of us and he’s always looking to break the line. He’s very clever in the field,” Andreu said.
“Dimas, I feel really good with him. We understand every role, I understand when Dimas has the ball what I need to do and Dimas as well with me.
“We are playing good because we are feeling really good on the field, but outside of the field as well.”
Not only are the Wanderers enjoying their second longest winning streak since the club formed, but they are also playing exciting football. In their last four games they have scored eight goals and created many more opportunities. That’s why Andreu says the team is confident ahead of Sunday’s trip up to Gosford for a match that has the makings of an entertaining encounter.
“It’s true that we are talking that we can win because we are playing good and feeling good. The most important thing is that every game is different, but we try to win again,” he said.
“I hope it will be entertaining, but we just want to win. I think that every game we are creating lots of chances, the fans enjoy it and I hope it’s like that again.
“I’m enjoying it a lot. I don’t want the opponent to score goals, but the most important is that we are scoring a lot of goals in the last few games. This is the reason why we are enjoying it. I hope the result will be again for us — the most important is to get the three points.”
The Wanderers fans are expected to travel for the game and Andreu says they play a crucial role in getting the players over the line.
“Our fans are unbelievable,” he said. “I didn’t expect before I come here that the fans would be like that, but now I’m enjoying it with them. They really are our No.12 in the stadium. The last game in Newcastle was really good because a lot of our fans were there and I think they will be again. We have another big support and it’s really good for us.”
