VIDEO: Jets score fastest goal of A-League season

MATCH CENTRE

NEWCASTLE JETS defeated Central Coast Mariners in a thrilling F3 derby at Central Coast Stadium.

The Mariners became the first team in the A-League to concede four goals in three consecutive matches and the first team to not keep a clean sheet the whole season. They also conceded a record 70 goals for the season.

Morten Nordstrand scored the fastest goal of the A-League season when he headed home Ryan Kitto’s cross in the 1st minute. Mariners’ goalkeeper Paul Izzo had run out of his box to clear the ball, but Kitto got to it first and took it past the Central Coast man to play a cross for Nordstrand. Izzo was knocked out in the process and had to be substituted for Adam Pearce.

Enver Alivodic made it 2-0 for the Jets in the 18th minute when Kitto played a perfect cross for the Serbian to tap into the Mariners’ goal.

Fabio Ferreira hit back for the home side with a spot-kick in the 51st minute when Kantarovski was penalised even though the ball appeared to hit his hip.

But Nordstrand restored the Jets’ two goal buffer four minutes later when he back-heeled Kitto’s cross into the net.

Roy O’Donovan headed home Richard Garcia’s pinpoint cross in the 76th minute to bring the score back to 3-2.

Mateo Poljak made it 4-2 for the Jets when he buried a curled strike from outside the box less than four mintues later.
