Melbourne City get good news on Bruce Kamau for vital A-League clash against Adelaide United
ADELAIDE United’s grand final hero Bruce Kamau will return to face his old club after missing Melbourne City’s epic FFA Cup final win on Tuesday with concussion.
ADELAIDE United’s grand final hero Bruce Kamau will return to face his old club after missing Melbourne City’s epic FFA Cup final win on Tuesday with concussion.
Battered duo Tim Cahill and defender Michael Jakobsen did indoor sessions, with both expected to play, though City is likely to make at least a few changes after the high-octane clash three days earlier.
Argentine marquee player Nicolas Colazo will miss at least a fortnight after having surgery to repair a burst eardrum.
Kamau, who’s speed and trickery have gone under the radar with so many stellar City performances in the first month, should start against the team he controversially left after scoring the opener in last season’s grand final win.
While Osama Malik and Ruon Tongyik have followed Kamau, the likes of Stefan Mauk, Ben Garuccio and Marc Marino have gone the other way in the last year.

City coach John van’t Schip hailed the impact of Kamau and the wingers in the new 3-4-3 system.
“The team is progressing and the wingers are having a very important role and they’re giving us a lot so we can play a certain style. Bruce is doing that and Fernando (Brandan) is doing that,’’ van’t Schip said.
“They all have their own qualities but for the way we want to play they are very fit, disciplined and dangerous and that’s a good combination.’’
Cahill, who was still limping at Wednesday’s recovery session after copping a kick in the back of the right calf, could come off the bench.
The Socceroos star, who has commanded plenty of attention since arriving, has been involved in some epic on-field battles in the last fortnight as City becomes accustomed to having a target on their backs.
“In a season you get what you deserve over the whole year. Now we get to hear these kind of stories (of preferential treatment),’’ he said.
“If it’s the other way around you never hear them and now it’s because things happen and they think the attention is maybe too much on us and they will use other things to influence people.]
“We just have to focus on our game, the expectations are high. We know and want that, we need to be focused and not worry about what other people are saying.
“We have to prepare ourselves. We did a few things differently against Perth so you invite the opponent into dangerous areas. We did it in the right way against Victory.’’
FFA Cup wonderkid Danny Choi could get a first start for Adelaide, who were stiff to lose to a late Marco Rojas winner last week.
United are still without star quartet Marcello Carrusca, Henrique, Sergio Cirio and Michael Marrone, who are all at least a month away.
