MELBOURNE City defender Connor Chapman insists his side is no flat track bully.
City is now undefeated in three games, has dismissed each of Perth and Central Coast 5-1 in the past two weeks and is favoured to beat the Jets in Newcastle on Sunday.
Inconsistency plagued the start of City’s season.
But Chapman said, with most players either resuming or being close to returning from injury, there is a belief that the team had finally turned the corner.
“All the boys are buzzing right now,” Chapman said.
“But you just have to keep that going, keep your head down and keep working.
“I think that’s the A-League, if you get a few wins in a row you go straight up the league.
“That’s what we were focusing on, we needed to get that consistency with the wins. I think that’s what we’d lacked, we’d win one and then maybe lose one.
“I think we’ve got a little bit of a roll now and hopefully we can go to Newcastle and get another win.”
City’s wins in the past fortnight have come against league strugglers, with the Glory last and Mariners second last on the table.
But Chapman said City was good value for its successes.
“They were both comfortable wins,” he said.
“But I think in most games this year - minus the Wanderers game (losing 3-0 at home) - I think we’ve been pretty strong and it was probably our own fault for losing games.
“We’ve found that consistency now with players and the style of play that we like to play.
“We’ve still got things to work on, we’re not perfect, but I think when we get things right we’ll be a very strong team, tough to beat.
