Henrique hopes to stay with A-League heavyweights Brisbane Roar next season

BRISBANE Roar livewire Henrique has indicated he would like to stay at the club beyond the end of the current season.
The “supersub”, who became an Australian citizen in October last year, has entered the final six months of his contract with his beloved club, along with a number of teammates, including fellow forwards Brandon Borrello and Jean Carlos Solorzano.
While coach John Aloisi has several decisions to make in that time, Henrique hopes he is doing enough each week to warrant a contract renewal with the Roar.
“Every week I’ve been scoring goals,” he said.
“I am not sure about contracts now. I am just essentially on my football and I’m pretty sure if I keep playing like I have been, the contract will sort out.”
Henrique, who has been coming off the bench this season for the top-placed Roar, has been with the club since 2009 and starred in all three of their championship victories.
He said becoming an Australian last year made him “super proud”, indicating he would not be looking for opportunities outside of the A-League.
“For me, for my family, it is a big thing. I am really happy to be Australian,” he said.
Henrique’s biggest chance to prove his worth could come this weekend with the “Slippery Fish” expected to be given a starting spot while Borrello and Jamie Maclaren are on Olyroos duty.
The Brazilian native has started in just three of the eight games he has played this season, after missing the first five weeks while recovering from a knee reconstruction.
He said Aloisi knows that he would prefer to be a starter and he will be using Sunday’s match against Wellington to stake his claim for the position.
“Every player trains the whole week to be in the starting 11,” he said.
“I am no different. But I will never question the coach’s decision. If he thinks I will be best for the team coming off the bench I will respect that. But as I said I would prefer to start.
“(This weekend) is the opportunity for everyone to grab it.”
