FORMER Brisbane Roar goalkeeper Matt Acton has moved to the Philippines to kick-start his career.
The 23-year-old gloveman signed a season-long deal with Kaya FC and starts training with his new teammates on Monday.
“It’s going to be a very good challenge for me,” Acton told The Sunday Mail.
“There aren’t many spots for keepers in the A-League so I’m happy to head back to Asia to play at a professional level.
“A one-year contract is good for me and then we’ll see what happens at the end of the season.”
Townsville product Acton spent a large chunk of 2014 playing for Yangon United in the Myanmar National League and last year played at a semi-professional level in the NPL Queensland competition for Olympic FC.
Meanwhile, Roar keeper Michael Theo continues his comeback from injury on Sunday with another appearance as an over-age player for Brisbane’s National Youth League team.
Set to join Theo in the NYL clash against Perth Glory, at the Cleveland Showgrounds from 10.30am, are fellow Brisbane A-League squad members Luke DeVere and Jerome Polenz.
Central defender DeVere is also on the comeback trail, while German fullback Polenz has made just one A-League appearance this season.
The Roar women’s team are also in action when they meet Adelaide United at the Adelaide Shores Football Centre today.
It is virtually a must-win game for the Roar – who have lost six of their nine matches this season – if they want to be part of the upcoming W-League finals series.
