BRISBANE Roar’s already depleted striking stocks have taken a further blow, with Costa Rican forward Jean Carlos Solorzano ruled out for up to four weeks with another quad injury.
Solorzano has led the Roar’s attacking line in Brisbane’s past two matches in the absence of first-choice centre-forward Jamie Maclaren.
Maclaren and Roar winger Brandon Borrello have both been away on Olyroos duty at the AFC under-23 championships in Qatar.
Solorzano, who suffered a similar injury to his upper leg earlier in the season, pulled up sore at training to add to his already frustrating season.
The 28-year-old marksman, whose contract expires at the end of the campaign, is yet to open his 2015-16 account and has made just two starts and another five appearances off the bench.
His latest injury will mean another reshuffle to the Roar’s forward line for Friday night’s clash against Adelaide United at Suncorp Stadium.
Contenders to start at centre-forward include Henrique, Dimitri Petratos and youth team striker Nick D’Agostino, who will today be named in an extended 18-man Roar squad.
The squad will also include skipper Matt McKay, who has trained well for the past two days after fears a hip complaint might have ruled him out, and Jerome Polenz.
German fullback Polenz, who has made just one appearance this season, is set to be named on the bench, with left back Corey Brown elevated to the starting side to replace the suspended Shane Stefanutto.
The first-placed Roar are out for redemption after being thrashed 4-0 last Friday by champions Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park.
Among the spectators at Suncorp Stadium to see Brisbane’s response will be club owner Nirwan Bakrie.
It will be the first time Bakrie has attended a Roar match.
During his short stay in Queensland, the Bakrie Group chairman will address the Roar’s A-League and W-League squads.
Bakrie will also have meetings with Brisbane coach John Aloisi and club chief executive David Pourre.
Indonesian conglomerate the Bakrie Group is on target to meet the end-of-January deadline it had been set by Football Federation Australia to clear the Roar’s substantial debts that almost led to the club being wound up last year.
Meanwhile, the Socceroos’ World Cup qualifier against Jordan on March 29 will be played at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium.
