ROAR owner Nirwan Bakrie’s scheduled trip to Brisbane has been cancelled.

The Jakarta-based chairman of the Bakrie Group was due to arrive on Friday ahead of the Roar-Adelaide United clash at Suncorp Stadium.

However, Roar chief executive officer David Pourre was notified early today that an urgent matter had forced Bakrie to change plans and remain in Indonesia.

Pourre is now expected to fly to Jakarta next week for meetings with Bakrie.

The Roar remain hopeful that Bakrie — who has never attended a Brisbane match — will travel to Queensland later in the season.

The Bakrie Group is on target to meet the end-of-January deadline it had been set by Football Federation Australia to clear the Roar’s substantial debts that almost led to the club being wound up last year.

Meanwhile, Roar skipper Matt McKay said he was fit for the match against Adelaide after being hampered by a glute injury that required a scan and forced him off in Brisbane’s 4-0 away loss to Melbourne Victory last Friday.

“It feels really good … I’m fine to play,” McKay said today.

“It hasn’t hurt the last couple of days. I’m confident going in that I’ll last the 90 minutes.”

McKay tipped the first-placed Roar — who are still without Olyroos trio Jamie Maclaren, Brandon Borrello and James Donachie, and will also be minus injured striker Jean Carlos Solorzano and suspended defender Shane Stefanutto — to bounce back after the thrashing they received from the Victory.

“First and foremost, cut mistakes out of the game. I think if we do that we’ve still got dangerous players going forward,” said McKay, who was relishing a return to Suncorp Stadium after successive away matches.

“It’s a good opportunity … we’re still undefeated there this season.”
