Brisbane Roar hungry for redemption against visiting Adelaide United
ADELAIDE United are again poised be the victims of a Brisbane side desperate for redemption in front of their faithful fans.
ADELAIDE United are again poised be the victims of a Brisbane side desperate for redemption in front of their faithful fans.
The Reds visit Suncorp Stadium for a second time this season, with Roar coach John Aloisi confident of a similar outcome to the Round 4 clash between the teams when Brisbane bounced back from a 3-2 loss to the Wellington Phoenix to dispose of Adelaide 3-0.
The Reds have climbed back into the top six after a seven-game unbeaten run and the league-leading Roar again have a point to prove after being thrashed 4-0 by Melbourne Victory last Friday.
“We had challenges when we lost our first game to Wellington and we bounced back,” Aloisi said.
“We played at home, we had players out injured, and the boys responded really well. I’m expecting the same.’’
The Roar are again missing personnel, with the key absentees being Olyroos forwards Jamie Maclaren and Brandon Borrello.
Brisbane have not looked the same in attack since the pair left for the Asian under-23 championships in Qatar.
With Australia knocked out of the tournament, the pair will be available for the Roar’s visit to Sydney FC Saturday week.
In the meantime, they must find someone to put the ball in the back of the net tonight.
Costa Rican striker Jean Carlos Solorzano is no longer an option after injuring his thigh, with the onus being on Henrique, Dimitri Petratos, Thomas Broich and potentially youth team marksman Nick D’Agostino to score.
In Brisbane’s favour is their great record at Suncorp Stadium. The Roar are unbeaten in six games at the Milton venue this season, winning five of them.
“It’s what we set out to do at the beginning of the season,’’ Aloisi said. “We want make it … a really hard place to come and visit.’’
Roar skipper Matt McKay was adamant he would last the 90 minutes despite a glute injury that forced him off in the loss to the Victory.
“It feels really good. I’m fine to play,” McKay said, despite not completing yesterday’s session.
“We’re going to have our bumps along the way. We had that last week, and it’s how we respond.’’
The Roar had hoped Jakarta-based club owner Nirwan Bakrie would be in the crowd but his scheduled trip to Brisbane has been cancelled due to an “urgent matter’’.
“Hopefully he can get here later in the season. We want to show him that we can be the biggest club in Australia,’’ Aloisi said.
With Corey Brown tonight being elevated to the starting side to replace suspended left back Shane Stefanutto, forgotten German defender Jerome Polenz will be called into the 16-man squad. Polenz has played only 75 minutes of A-League football this season.
