ADELAIDE United has made a concrete offer for star Socceroos attacker James Troisi.
Troisi is destined to make a decision about where his immediate playing future is on Saturday.
Troisi has been targeted to fill Adelaide’s vacant marquee player position after skipper Eugene Galekovic who had the spot was moved inside the salary cap.
Galekovic shifted inside the fiscal threshold due to the club taking advantage of Football Federation Australia’s loyalty player allowance which can be up to $200,000.
Galekovic qualified after giving more than five years of service — he landed in Adelaide in 2007.
But Adelaide is not alone making an A-League offer for Troisi.
So too has Wellington Phoenix it’s believed.
The Socceroos hot property is weighing up a number of options with clubs from the top Asian Football Confederation Leagues — China, Japan and South Korea — now leading the charge to lure the South Australian during the current FIFA transfer window.
Troisi, 27, came to a mutual termination agreement with his former Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad this week over an unpaid wages dispute.
Troisi’s European-based agents 2006 FIFA World Cup Socceroo Vince Grella and Frank Trimboli have fielded a number of inquiries for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup final goalscoring hero since he officially split with his Saudi club.
“We’re set on making a decision by Saturday,’’ Troisi said after a training session on Thursday.
But Troisi regarded his Saudi Arabian experience as one he’ll never forget in a long time.
The Socceroos forward claimed he was forced to leave his Saudi Arabian compound incognito such was his popularity in the soccer mad nation.
“Their fans and the way they are it was crazy,’’ Troisi said.
“Everywhere you go they want to know you, that’s why a lot of the times I wore hats and glasses when I went out.
“They’d grab you and want photos, selfies.
“And they’d find out which hotel you’re staying out and there would be 100 people waiting to see you.
“And at the airports it’s crazy and wherever we’d travel over there would be big crowds waiting for photos.
“Security ushered us everywhere and we’d pretty much be running on the team bus once we’d get out of the airport, you just couldn’t move.
“You feel like one of the Kardashians, it’s full on, you do feel like something special.
“And an average crowd was about 45,000, we’ve also had 70 to 80,000 crowds.”
Troisi’s tenure at the club started turning sour when Al-Ittihad had three managers within weeks from October.
