The Tour Down Under says it is not implicated by corruption allegations

An anonymous dossier alleging corruption by the UCI president around drug testing on Lance Armstrong has no implications for the TDU, its spokesperson says.

THE Tour Down Under says it is in no way implicated by allegations that the UCI was bribed into bending drug testing rules to allow Lance Armstrong to race in Adelaide in 2009.

An anonymous dossier alleging corruption by UCI president Pat McQuaid and leaked to the media this week included reference to Armstrong's comeback at the TDU in January, 2009.

The dossier, believed to have been completed by private investigators, alleges McQuaid agreed to allow Armstrong to race the TDU in which he would receive a $1 million fee - despite not having met six-month anti-doping program requirements - in return for Armstrong riding the Tour of Ireland in McQuaid's native country for free.

McQuaid has strongly denied the allegations, which were published by cycling website velonews.com, calling them "complete fabrication". He told UK newspaper The Telegraph he had asked the UCI ethics committee to investigate and insisted he had nothing to hide.

A spokesperson for the TDU released a statement to The Advertiser that read: "This report does not implicate us in any way and we have nothing further to say."

McQuaid is locked in a bitter election battle with challenger Brian Cookson to retain the UCI presidency, which will be decided at the world championships in Italy this month.

In other cycling news, Armstrong yesterday handed back the bronze medal he won in the time trial at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Armstrong Tweeted the news which was later confirmed by the US Olympic Committee.
