Mitch Marsh, who made fans across Australia with a hilarious and emotional speech after winning men’s cricket’s top gong last year, was in attendance for the 2025 Australian Cricket Awards on Monday night.
His difficult summer was always going to be discussed but Marsh had some cracking responses when chatting with the boys from The Grade Cricketer.
Asked about the year, Marsh explained: “It’s been incredible, really ... capped off by the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and the way the boys played especially with 10 players, without me. They did really well.”
Bang.
Then the West Aussie was asked about the fan reaction he received after winning last year’s award, and whether he had “felt the love” from fans.
“Yeah, prior to December I felt a lot of love,” Marsh quipped.
“Post-December, bit of a different story.”
Bang. Another. But comedy comes in threes, so he had one more to deliver.
Marsh was asked: “It must’ve been really nice to have a full summer facing Bumrah and then watch the boys go to Sri Lanka and score a million.”
His response: “Yeah look, if there’s one wicket I needed, it was probably that Galle wicket.
“Actually my little nephew Ted, he’s four years old, we played backyard cricket the other day. He came in with (Jasprit) Bumrah’s action, and the nightmare continued!”
And that’s why Australia will always love the Bison.
