‘Tried to kill me’: Piers Morgan still terrified of ‘psychopath’ Brett Lee
Piers Morgan is still suffering “PTSD” after copping a bouncer barrage from Australian speedster Brett Lee at the MCG nets.
It’s been eight years since Piers Morgan copped a bouncer barrage from Australian speedster Brett Lee at the MCG nets, but the British television personality still hasn’t recovered from the “public stoning”.
During England’s tumultuous 2013/14 Ashes campaign, Morgan criticised the players who had jumped ship and withdrawn from the Test series.

No. 3 batter Jonathon Trott returned home citing mental health concerns after the Gabba Test, where Aussie spearhead Mitchell Johnson tore through England’s hapless top-order, while off-spinner Graeme Swann retired from all forms of cricket after the Perth Test, where Australia retained the Ashes after just three matches.
“Two players given up, and the Ashes lost … all before Christmas. What a complete and utter shambles,” he tweeted at the time.
“Graeme Swann’s been a great player for England, but it’s not ‘courageous’ to quit an Ashes series before it finishes. It’s selfish.”
In response, Channel 9 offered Morgan a challenge — face one over from Lee in the MCG nets live on national television.
And it went just as you’d expect.
Lee showed Morgan no mercy, and the British celebrity returned home with a broken rib and a heavily bruised ego.
Footage of the infamous moment has registered millions of views on YouTube and social media platforms.
Appearing on Channel 9’s Today, Morgan was forced to relive the traumatic experience with highlights shown in the studio.
“Someone said to me, how’s it going in Sydney? I went, well the weather’s great, but actually the good news is I haven’t had my ribs broken yet by Brett Lee,” Morgan joked on Friday morning.
“Which was, as my sister described it, the nearest thing to a public stoning she’d ever witnessed.
“This is going to give me PTSD.
“He tried to kill me.
“The third (ball) broke my rib. I was wearing this massive guard over my front, and then the fourth (ball) hit the broken rib.
“And Brett Lee ran down and went, ‘Oh mate, did you hear that one crack!’
“I was like, you are a psychopath!”
