Steve Smith can’t help himself after Marnus’ viral ‘calamity’

Marnus Labuschagne is always entertaining at the crease but batter delivered one of the most bizarre dismissals you’ll ever see.

Marnus Labuschagne may never live this one down.

While the Aussie top order failed to see David Warner and Steve Smith out for ducks for the first time in the same innings in their career together, Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head combined to save the day.

The rescue mission from 3/12 to 3/85 in just 12 overs was incredible but Labuschagne made himself the butt of the lowlight reels for years to come with a spectacular dismissal.

Always quirky, on 44 off just 52 balls, Labuschagne made a meal of what looked to be a certain Test fifty.

The World’s No. 1 ranked Test batsman went a step too far when he was bowled middle stump around his legs, and wound up face first on the deck.

And at every opportunity, the video has been played and the commentators have loved it every time.

Laughing, Fox Cricket’s Michael Vaughan said “I’ve never ever seen this in Test cricket”, saying he “tripped over his own feet”.

“I’ve never ever seen this in cricket, let alone Test cricket, on the first session of a Test match,” Vaughan added. “But where was he going?”

Mike Hussey agreed, saying: “That is one of the most bizarre dismissals you’ll ever see in Test cricket.”

Brendan Julian said he might not have hit it even if had stayed on his feet.

On SEN, former English captain Michael Atherton said: “I’ve never seen anything like it. It was the most comical thing. It was hilarious. Rory Burns now doesn’t have the most comical dismissal of the series. I just don’t know what he was doing.”

But the Aussie leaders found the funny side.

Fox Cricket shared vision of Aussie skipper Pat Cummins and his deputy Steve Smith enjoying the vision in the immediate aftermath, as Labuschagne bailed Australia out.

Twitter account for Flash Cricket even posted that the Aussies were enjoying the vision of the dismissal, even after Marnus made it back to the pavilion.

Labuschagne, not so much.

Post match, Travis Head said it was some “good bowling” and that the reaction from Smith and Cummins was exactly the right response.

“Smithy moreso will be on his back over the next few days,” he said on Channel 7. “I’m looking forward to all the memes coming out on that.

“I know the boys have been into him the last few hours, he’s claiming he slipped, I reckon he got done like a dinner.

“Those things happen. We laugh about them but I know he’s a class player and it probably won’t happen again.”

The vision quickly went viral as Labuschagne was trending more than a session after his dismissal.

While Labuschagne was the butt of the jokes, he also helped save Australia’s innings as he and Travis Head went on to hit 101 and Cameron Green a not out half century by tea as Australia passed 200.
