‘Stupid’: Pat Cummins surprise sledge revelation before Champions Trophy

Pat Cummins has shown who he really is in a candid campaign launched before he was officially ruled out of the Champions Trophy.

Pat Cummins has heard them all.

The Australian captain has proven just how much of a cricket tragic he is while making hilarious comments about his sledging experience.

The 31-year-old is the face of Prime Video’s latest ad campaign ahead of the streaming giant’s coverage of the 2025 Champions Ttophy.

Cummins was on Thursday officially ruled out of Australia’s campaign but he has made his intentions known ahead of the tournament, which begins February 19 in Pakistan and the UAE.

Cummins is seen in the ‘Go Full Cricket’ ad campaign cracking jokes about his daily life and practicing sledges that pop up into his head.

“You only wear those pads to hide your chicken legs,” Cummins says into the bathroom mirror during the ad.

“Your moustache is so stupid,” he says in another clip.”

He also pretends to sledge a batsman: “You allergic to cherries mate?”

“I’m Pat Cummin for you.”

The light-hearted ad also shows Cummins dropping dad-jokes at the expense of Ashes rivals Ben Stokes, and Ollie Pope — as well as Indian superstar Virat Kohli and South African Quinton de Kock.

“Oi Ben. I’m not stoked about you,” he chuckles to himself.

“Hey Pope. You better start praying,” he says in another sledge.

He says of the former Indian captain: “Hey Kohli, I’ve never seen you bat this slowly”.

Pretending to mock de Kock, he says: “More like Quinton de Block.”

Cummins is far from a natural sledger — and it shows his cricket education growing up.

When asked by news.com.au to spill the “daggiest” sledge hurled his way, Cummins didn’t have much to say.

“There’s too many stump microphones around now so not too much is said,” he said.

“Back in junior and grade cricket days there used to be alot of, ‘More leaves than a 40-foot tree’ or ‘More Misses than King Henry VIII’.”

When asked to share his own daggy sledging history, Cummins showed who he really is in sharing why he stays out of the chirp.

“Probably some terrible ones when I was younger, now I’m older and wiser I realise I’m not very clever at sledges so tend to keep fairly quiet,” Cummins told news.com.au.

The campaign also shows Cummins shadow batting with a newspaper in a scene Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne would approve of, the pair being the most relentless shadow batters in the Aussie team.

The campaign Cummins will miss is the Champions Trophy where Australia will now need a new leader. Coach Andrew McDonald recently confirmed Smith and Travis Head are the two options being considered.

Australia’s campaign begins against England in Lahore on February 22.

Cummins says the key to the team’s success will depend on its ability to “scrap” out of difficult moments where the game is slipping away.

“In ODI there will be times where its pretty, where our top order blow the opposition out of the park, or our bowlers get a few early, but as important is the scrapping that can make a big difference in 50 over cricket,” he said.

“Trying things with the ball to manufacture a wicket, or hanging in there when all feels lost and seeing pressure start swinging your way.”

Australia is in Group B with South Africa, Afghanistan and England. The final will take place on March 9.
