Stuart MacGill faces court over coke allegation

Cricketer Stuart MacGill has made his first appearance in court after being charged over an alleged drug deal which is associated with his alleged kidnapping.

Australian cricketing great Stuart MacGill has appeared in court for the first time after being charged with taking part in a 1kg cocaine deal linked to his alleged kidnapping.

Mr MacGill on Thursday made his first appearance before Manly Local Court after he was earlier this year charged by police over his alleged role in a drug deal.

He was arrested at Chatswood Police Station in September and charged with one count of knowingly taking part in the supply of a large commercial quantity of a prohibited drug.

According to court documents, Mr MacGill is alleged to have taken part in the supply of one kilogram of cocaine at Neutral Bay, on Sydney’s Lower North Shore, between April 1 and April 14 in 2021.

On Thursday, his solicitor Michelle Karim asked for an eight-week adjournment and asked for brief orders.

Mr MacGill did not enter a plea when he appeared in court on Thursday.

Six men have previously been arrested over the alleged kidnapping of Mr MacGill from outside his Cremorne apartment in April, 2021.

According to police allegations, he was taken to a property at Bringelly in southwestern Sydney where he was assaulted, threatened with a gun and demands were made for money.

Mr MacGill was allegedly held for an hour before being driven to Belmore where he was released and allowed to get into a cab.

It has been alleged by police the incident was related to a drug deal gone wrong.

Six men have been charged over the alleged kidnapping and have pleaded not guilty and remain before the courts.

Earlier this month, the trial of five of the alleged kidnappers was delayed after Mr MacGill was charged.

Mr MacGill has repeatedly stated he was not involved in any wrongdoing.

“I know I’ve done nothing wrong,” he told A Current Affair in 2021.

He remains on strict conditional bail, including that he turn over his passport.

Mr MacGill will return to court on December 21.
