Steve Smith and David Warner in international Test team of the decade

Aussie batsmen Steve Smith and David Warner have both made the international Test team of the decade.

Australian stars Steve Smith and David Warner both made the International Cricket Council’s Test team of the decade, but the announcement wasn’t without controversy.

Retired Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara was picked as keeper in the same team despite not having worn the wicketkeeping gloves in a Test since 2008, which was outside the qualification period.

Smith and Warner were certainties in a team jam-packed with the best players the world has seen since 2010, including Indian megastar Virat Kohli, who was named captain.

Between them the Aussie duo have made 50 Test hundreds in the past 10 years, Smith 26 since his 2019 debut and Warner 24 since earning his baggy green in 2011.

England’s new ball tag team of James Anderson and Stuart Broad were included, with no Australian bowlers named.

But Mitch Starc did make the ODI team of the decade along with Warner, the only two Aussies named.

Australian white-ball captain Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell made the T20 team of the decade, again the only Aussies in a line-up that included MS Dhoni as captain.

Meg Lanning and three of her fellow Aussie T20 World Cup-winning heroes made the women’s T20 team of the decade.

Lanning was named captain of both the ODI and T20 teams of the decade in recognition of her standing in world cricket.

Star all-rounder Ellyse Perry and keeper Alyssa Healy also made both teams, with Aussie fast bowler Megan Schutt also included in the T20 team.
