Ricky Ponting fumes after being pelted with grapes by rowdy England fans
Ricky Ponting was left absolutely fuming after a disgraceful incident during his live TV appearance with Sky Sports at The Oval.
Ricky Ponting has reacted with fury after being hit with grapes while giving his commentary on the opening day of play in the fifth Ashes Test at The Oval.
The former Australian cricket star was visibly furious due to the incident, which occurred at the conclusion of the day’s play as he stood on the edge of the field on the Sky Sports set.

England were bowled out for just 283 as Bazball appeared to backfire in overcast conditions.
Ben Duckett, Harry Brook and Chris Woakes were the only major run-scorers with the bat for the hosts.
And Ben Stokes’ side were only able to prise one Aussie wicket before the close of play, as Woakes had David Warner caught in the slips.
The tourists finished a day in which they edged England on 61-1.
As Ponting discussed the finer points of the day’s play with Aussie spinner Todd Murphy, a number of fruity missiles struck the former Baggy Green skipper.
Several grapes lay at his feet as he stared menacingly into the crowd.
Sky Sports host Ian Ward tried to laugh off the situation, but Ponting wouldn’t let it lie.
The Australian cricket legend, almost shaking in rage, said: “I’ve just been hit by a grape.
“I wouldn’t mind finding out who that was actually.”
Ponting has become a sideshow of the series in his own right, with his, at times, blistering insights keeping the Aussies and English on their toes.
Before play commenced on Thursday night (AEST), Ponting rubbished a shout from English batting specialist Joe Root, who suggested changes to the way Test cricket is played after heavy rain in Manchester denied the hosts a likely Ashes series-equalling victory at Old Trafford.
“It doesn’t get dark until 10pm here in the summer,” Root told the BBC after a draw in the rain affected the fourth Test. “Why can’t we play until the overs are bowled?”
Pointing responded with his trademark bluntness.
“You can’t just choose to change the laws of the game whenever you want to,” he said on The ICC Review podcast.
“I’m sure there have been times when England have wanted to not get back out there and play themselves. I mean, that’s just a ridiculous thing to say.”
The Australians have copped their fair share of critisim from Ponting as they appeared outdone by Bazball during the last two Tests.
During an interview with Sky Sports, Ricky Ponting shared his thoughts on Australia’s poor performance on Day Two of the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester.
Ponting stated that the team seemed to be under pressure and got “caught in the headlights a little bit.”
“I think this team has never been put under that pressure ever,” he said.
“Pat Cummins, as a captain, has never been put under that pressure ever.
“There is probably an hour of yesterday they would like to have back and be clearer in what they were trying to do with their plans and execution.”
Earlier in the first day of the fifth Test, cricket fans were left fuming with Sky Sports after the sound disappeared at a crucial juncture.
The audio cut out as Woakes claimed England’s first wicket of the match – with Joe Root clinging onto a David Warner edge.
And viewers were furious that they had not been able to hear the reaction at The Oval.
One said: “Sky Sports lost the sound to the cricket and England go and got the wicket of Warner. Great timing.”
Another added: “Somebody @SkySports cricket just sat on the remote and muted it.”

A third replied: “Sky Sports have had a ‘mare there! England take a wicket, but there’s no audio on the feed from the Oval!”
And a fourth responded: “Nothing like a bit of silent cricket, thanks Sky Sports …”
