Pat Cummins makes history with T20 World Cup hat trick vs Bangladesh

Aussie Pat Cummins etched his name into cricket’s record books before David Warner delivered an emphatic statement to his critics.

Cummins becomes just 2nd Aussie to claim a T20 World Cup Hat-trick!

Australia have defeated Bangladesh by 28 runs in their opening match in the Super 8 stage of the T20 Cricket World Cup.

Pat Cummins was the hero with the ball as the Aussies restricted their rivals to 8/140 from their 20 overs.

Cummins became just the second Aussie and the seventh individual to register a hat-trick at a T20 World Cup.

The Test skipper struck first by clean bowling Mahmudullah before he sent Mahedi Hasan packing with the very next ball after he guided a shot straight to Adam Zampa in the outfield.

Cummins secured the hat trick with the first ball of the final over of the innings when Towhid Hridoy attempted a ramp shot that went straight into the hands of Josh Hazlewood.

He joins Brett Lee on the illustrious list after the former Aussie quick achieved the feat back in 2007, also against Bangladesh.

A brief rain delay ensued before the Aussie innings got underway with Travis Head and David Warner going on the attack.

The duo piled on the runs before the heavens opened back up with Head departing shortly after the delay.

Skipper Mitch Marsh fell only two overs later after scoring only one run before Glenn Maxwell joined Warner at the crease.

The Aussie opener continued on his swashbuckling way as he registered his half century with a blistering shot to the boundary.

A single with the next ball brought up three figures for the Aussies before the rain came pouring down and ultimately saw the match called off.

Under the Duckworth Lewis System the Aussies secured the victory by 28 runs with Warner not out on 53 from 35 balls.

1.45pm - Mitch Marsh the latest to fall

Australian skipper Mitch Marsh has failed to have any key impact on the scorecard with a review failing to save him.

Marsh was trapped on the pads by Rishad Hossain with the umpires finger being raised shortly after the appeal.

After a brief consultation with David Warner, Marsh sent it upstairs for review with ball tracking showing the ball was marginally clipping leg stump and sticking with the umpire’s decision.

Australia need 71 runs from 66 balls to secure the win.

1.40pm - Head gone with poor shot selection

Travis Head is back in the sheds moments after the game got back underway after being clean bowled by Rishad Hossain.

A straight delivery from the Bangladesh spinner went straight through Head who attempted to hoist him into the leg side with a cross bat shot.

The ball skidded under the bat and into middle stump to give Bangladesh their first wicket for the innings.

1.15pm - Rain delaying the inevitable here

Just when it looked like the Aussies could wrap up the victory in lightning quick time, the heavens opened up and the rain came pouring down.

Play was brought to a halt after 6.2 overs with the Aussies sitting pretty at 0/64 with Warner on 32 runs from 18 balls while Head had scored 31 from 20.

12.55pm - Head and Warner on the attack

The Aussie openers are going after the Bangladesh bowlers and looking to end this one quickly.

Four overs into the chase and they’ve put 36 runs on the board with both men scoring 18 which includes both hitting one six and two fours.

12.45pm - Warner gets an early lifeline

A tough chance has gone begging for Bangladesh with Australian opener David Warner put down at point.

A strong cut from Warner made its way to the fielder who couldn’t hold on to the low catching chance.
