If the NSW-Queensland Sheffield Shield clash is anything to go by, this Wednesday‘s State of Origin is going to be off the hook.

A back and forth struggle through the four days saw the teams only separated by one wicket as the game went down to the wire.

It was a game that had Marnus Labuschagne‘s day one century on a green top wicket, before NSW’s Sean Abbott save the Blues’ skin with a 77-ball 66 alongside captain Peter Nevill’s patient 59 to get the state close to Queensland’s first innings.

The plot thickened with Trent Copeland turning back the clock with an incredible 5/17 off 18 overs leaving NSW needing 205 to win and finishing day three at 3/71.

Daniel Hughes (48) and Daniel Solway (52) added 53 more to the overnight score before the first wicket of the day fell.

But when Nevill fell at 5/162, NSW still appeared to have the game in hand but leg spinner Mitchell Swepson had a different plan in mind.

The leggy took the wickets of Nevill, Mitchell Starc and Trent Copeland to make it tense.

Needing 19 to win, Nathan Lyon came to the crease with Abbott.

While the pair ticked off the runs, a mix up going for the winning run saw Lyon run out by Michael Neser.

Abbott held his nerve however, hitting the winning run, only just clearing the fielder at mid-on.

The reaction was quick for the thriller of a match.

It was a stunning end to the game with Swepson picking up the man of the match honours for his 10 wicket match, having taken 5/97 in the first innings and 5/74 in the second.

The result sees NSW win its first game of the season after a first game loss to Western Australia.

Queensland also go to 1-1 for the season.
