Mitchell Johnson stitched up by Channel 7 cameras as Warner attack backfires

Mitchell Johnson has been done dirty after his David Warner hot take backfired in a big way on the opening day of the Test summer.

'This is not T20 Cricket is it?!' - Warner drops jaws with ABSURD six

Mitchell Johnson has been savagely thrown under the bus by cricket broadcasters after his David Warner hot take came back to bite him on the opening day of the Test summer.

After winning the toss and electing to bat in Perth, Warner and Usman Khawaja piled on 117 runs in the first session to suggest Pakistan are in for a miserable series.

Warner was particularly impressive, bringing up his half century in no time with nine boundaries.

All eyes were on Johnson after he criticised Warner for pre-announcing his retirement and not taking ownership of the sandpaper scandal.

In the sixth over, Warner punched a fuller delivery from Khurram Shazad back down the ground, beating mid-off and racing away to the boundary.

As the ball raced away to the rope, the Channel 7 cameras panned to the Triple M commentary box to show Johnson reacting with a wry smile.

“Mitchell Johnson looked as though he liked it. From a radio box not too far from here. Interesting lead up to the match,” Tim Lane said on Channel 7’s coverage.

Eagle-eyed viewers couldn’t help but notice Johnson was done dirty by the broadcaster’s camerawork.

Johnson was initially left off Triple M’s list of commentators the station said would be covering the first Test of the series in Perth.

But the former fast bowler was given the all clear to call the game despite the confusion.

“Look, I wasn’t meant to be here from what I was told,’’ Johnson said during commentary.

“I was happy to be here. It has been an interesting time. I have given my opinion. I have said what I have said and we move on.’’

On Triple M, James Brayshaw took the mickey out of Johnson, joking he’d been keeping a low profile in the lead up to the Test summer.

Brayshaw: “Now I haven’t seen you in the lead up to this game Johnno. Anything been going on?

Johnson: “Not really”

Brayshaw: “Not really? Keeping a low profile?”

Johnson: “Nah all good here in the West. The sun’s been shining mate.”

Judging by Warner’s first innings, he is guaranteed his fairytale farewell Test in Sydney and it could be a very long summer for Johnson.
