‘Let us come back’: Mitch Marsh’s desperate plea to WA Premier Mark McGowan

The Perth Scorchers are on fire but they won’t get to play the BBL finals in front of home fans unless the WA Premier changes his mind.

Mitch Marsh has pleaded with West Australian Premier Mark McGowan to let the Perth Scorchers back into their home state for the finals of the Big Bash League.

The Scorchers have been in red-hot form throughout the BBL and locked up top spot on the ladder with a six-wicket win over the Brisbane Heat on Monday night.

Marsh, Australia’s T20 World Cup hero, has been superb for the Scorchers, being named player of the match in four out of the six games he’s played.

The Scorchers have won 11 games out of 14 and are now just two wins away from claiming another Big Bash title.

The BBL finals begin on Friday with the final to be held on Friday January 28, but with WA remaining closed off to the rest of the country until February 5, it appears likely the Scorchers will be denied the chance to play the finals in front of their home fans.

After the win over the Heat, Marsh issued a desperate plea to Premier McGowan, urging him to open the borders so the Scorchers can return to WA.

“Mr McGowan if you’re there, please let us come back to play,” he cheekily told Channel 7.

Marsh was in excellent touch against the Heat, smacking 59 runs off 34 balls including a 35-run burst during the two-over power surge in which he faced every ball.

He was the difference between the two sides as the Scorchers chased down the Heat’s total of 155 with eight balls to spare.

The Scorchers have won the Big Bash three times and have been runners-up on three occasions, most recently when they lost to the Sixers in last season’s final.
