JACKSON Bird says Peter Siddle gave him some words of wisdom before his first over of Test cricket yesterday - don't change a thing.

Bird collected 2-32 in 13 overs on Boxing Day, which included a wicket with just his 10th ball.

"Sids (Siddle)is definitely a leader of our team,'' Bird told Channel 9. "He bowls with so much heart and passion. He had a few words for me, basically to keep doing what I was doing and not to change anything.''

Bird said he was "lucky'' to get the ball in the right areas yesterday.

"It was good to get the bowling out of the way first, I was a little bit nervous at the start of the day, so it was nice to get the first couple of wickets out of the way,'' he said.

The 26-year-old said the atmosphere at the MCG, with a crowd of more than 67,000, was "unbelievable''.

"When Mitchell Johnson was on a hat trick it was so loud, it was definitely something I'll always remember,'' he said.
