England young gun Harry Brook has Australian spinner Nathan Lyon in his sights

England have vowed all-out attack with the bat when the Ashes begins and a confident young star has one Aussie bowler in his sights.

England still wild about 'Bazball'

Australian spinner Nathan Lyon could be spending a lot of time watching the ball sail over his head during the Ashes if uber-confident young English batter Harry Brook has his way.

Lyon, the fourth highest wicket-taker in Australian Test history, took nine wickets in the opening match of the 2019 series at Edgbaston and four years later could have another dry pitch to help his cause.

But England’s “Bazball” style of batting is set to challenge the seasoned Australian bowling attack and barnstorming batter Brook has declared he wants to “take down” Lyon.

Brook is the poster boy for England’s all-out attack with the bat, averaging 81.80 from his seven Tests and has scored his 818 runs from 11 innings at a strike rate of 99.03, including four centuries.

When asked his attitude to facing Lyon, he replied “what do you think?” before declaring there will be some respect mixed in with plans for an assault as well.

“If he bowls a good ball, then I‘m going to respect it but other than that, I’m going to try to take him on,” Brook said.

“He could take a lot of wickets but hopefully we’re going to hit him for a lot of runs.

“So it‘s not necessarily I’m going to come after him and try and hit every ball for six.

“I like to think I’m a player who can find gaps and hit different gaps really and play all around the wicket. I’ll see what field he has. I’m sure they’ll start with everybody up and we’ll go from there.”

Several Australians have talked about whether the relentless attacking style of the English batters will work against an attack that includes Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Scott Boland and Josh Hazlewood as well.

But Brook confidently stated the faster Australia bowled, the quicker the ball would get to the boundary.

“Obviously, they might have a little bit of extra pace, but if they bowl quicker, it tends to go to the boundary quicker,” he said

Brook, 24, said it was a “dream come true to be involved in my first Ashes” and felt ready to perform

“I feel like I‘m more part of the team now,” he said.

“Obviously, as a deputy you don’t quite feel like you’re meant to be there if you know what I mean. So to have been contributing and gain a few matchwinning performances this winter has meant the world and I feel a big part of the team now.”
