McCullum had a flair for plundering bowling attacks to all parts of grounds around the world and he’s brought that same flair to England.

Termed as “Bazball”, the English have brought a one-day style attacking flair to the Test cricket format and left those watching on in awe.

Ben Stokes’ men are currently ranked third behind Australia and India, but their new found style has seen them etch their names into the history books.

England ended the 2022 calendar year with a run rate of 4.13 per over from 15 Tests. An unheard of number in Test cricket and one not seen for 112 years.

It is the second highest run rate ever recorded for a calendar year since Test cricket started back in 1877.

Only Australia bettered the mind-boggling number in 1910 when they had a run rate of 4.47 per over, that figure however came from two Tests.

Throughout Test history, the magical four runs per over mark has been achieved three times with Australia in 2003 (12 Tests) coming in third with 4.08 runs per over.

England ramped up their offensive onslaught in the final month of the year when they took on Pakistan.

Venturing into enemy territory, England swept their opponents aside in a 3-0 drubbing as they smashed the Pakistan bowling attack to the tune of 5.50 runs per over.

Highest run-rate by a team in a calendar year:

1: Australia in 1910 (2 Tests) = 4.47

2: England in 2022 (15 Tests) = 4.13

3: Australia in 2003 (12 Tests) – 4.08

4: Australia in 2002 (11 Tests) = 3.99

5: South Africa in 1902 (3 Tests) = 3.98

The series victory saw England claim more wins in Pakistan than they had ever previously recorded, having only won two Tests beforehand.

In the opening Test the Poms pulled off the “greatest win in Test history” in what was a chaotic final day in Rawalpindi.

“That is one of the greatest Test match victories you will ever see,” commentator Nasser Hussain declared.

Meanwhile, English media figure Piers Morgan branded it the “greatest win in Test history” as the cricket world went wild over the incredible result.
