As the records tumbled, Warner attempted to share the news on his Instagram account when he was given a rude surprise.

The 37-year-old had been savagely blocked by his former IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on social media.

Warner attempted to share Travis Head’s Instagram story to his own account but all he could see was a blank screen with the message “this story is unavailable”.

He captioned the post on his Instagram account “Trying to repost @travishead34 post but blocked from @sunrisers Instagram”.

Warner previously played for Sunrisers having joined the team following the 2014 auction, he was appointed captain in 2015 before leading the team to their maiden and only IPL trophy in 2016.

He was a fan favourite at SRH before the relationship between the team and him began to turn sour during the 2021 season.

Warner was first dropped from the captaincy position and then axed from the team altogether in 2021.

Hyderabad then elected not to retain the Aussie ahead of the 2022 auction with Delhi Capitals swooping in and snapping him up.

In an interview with Sports Today in India at the time, Warner said he was blindsided by the decision and had not been given a reason.

“The disappointing thing for me was not being explained why I was dropped as captain,” he said.

“I think if you want to go along the lines of form, it’s a difficult one because I guess whatever you’ve done in the past would have some weight moving forward, especially when you’ve played 100 games for the franchise.

“You don‘t know who is going for you, who wants you to be selected, who doesn’t. End of the day you’re told you’re not playing.

“It’s difficult, a bitter pill to swallow, but I don’t think I will ever get answers and must move on.”

It appears the bad blood between the two parties still exists.

Hyderabad broke the IPL auction record when they secured Aussie captain Pat Cummins for $3.67 million.

The previous highest bid in IPL history was England all-rounder Sam Curran, who was signed by the Punjab Kings for $3.3 million (18.5 crore) in last year’s Auction.

The monster signing was then followed up by the move to secure Head for $1.22 million.

Cummins however was overtaken atop the leaderboard by countryman Mitchell Starc who was snapped up by the Kolkata Knight Riders for AU$4.42 million following an intense bidding war with the Gujurat Titans.

Meanwhile, Australian superstar Steve Smith went unsold. The former Aussie captain failed to garner a single bid despite his contribution to this year’s World Cup victory.
