David Warner not picked up for The Hundred in the UK
David Warner isn’t short of T20 deals but there wasn’t one on offer in England as his retirement from international cricket looms.
David Warner’s life as a T20 specialist has been dealt a setback after he was snubbed in the draft for The Hundred in the UK.
The 37-year-old, who has never played in The Hundred and retired from Test cricket in January, put himself into the player draft at a reserve price ‘pounds 100,000’, the second-highest salary bracket, but the opening batsman was not selected by any of the eight teams.

Warner was among a host of Australian men who were overlooked for the tournament, including fellow Aussie T20 squad members Josh Inglis, Matthew Wade and Tim David.
West Indies stars Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard, Rovam Powell and Shimron Hetmyer were all snapped up — benefitting from no clash between The Hundred and the Caribbean Premier League.
Warner is set to play his last international game for Australia in the T20 World Cup later this year. He will play for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League.
But there will still be 21 Australians playing in the UK, with a host of the World Cup winning women, including Belinda Clarke medallist Ash Gardner, Beth Mooney and all-round young gun Annabel Sutherland.
Former Australian captain Meg Lanning, who was the second-leading run scorer in the Women’s Premier League, also earnt a spot as she continues to be a hot commodity after her shock international retirement.
Several Australians were also retained by their franchises, with Adam Zampa and Spencer Johnson to team up at the Oval Invincibles and evergreen Ellyse Perry also locked in at the Birmingham Phoenix.
But there was no room for Warner, who is now a T20 gun for hire after his retirement from Test and ODI cricket, with the T20 World Cup in the US and Caribbean this year set to be his international swan song.
