Cricket world reacts to Glenn Maxwell’s magic moment in the IPL

Australian cricket Glenn Maxwell has been touted as one of the world’s greatest fielders, and he proved exactly why during the Indian Premier League last night.

Representing the King XI Punjab in Abu Dhabi, Maxwell worked his magic on the boundary to dismiss Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma.

After hammering a quick-fire 70, Sharma slapped a full delivery from Indian paceman Mohammad Shami towards the long off boundary.

Maxwell sprinted along the boundary rope and snared the catch, but not after fumbling the ball into his hip.

Before he steamed over the boundary, the 31-year-old flicked the ball towards Kiwi teammate Jimmy Neesham, who completed the impressive catch.

Following a review from the third umpire, Sharma made his way back to the pavilion with Mumbai 4/124 after 16.1 overs.

After the skipper’s dismissal, Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya combined for an explosive 67-run partnership to set an imposing first innings total.

Kings XI were tasked with chasing 192 from their 20 overs for victory, but Maxwell was unable to replicate his heroics with the bat.

The Victorian couldn’t muster a boundary on Thursday, finishing his uneventful innings with 11 off 18 balls.

However, Australian paceman James Pattinson was destructive with the ball in the second innings, snaring 2/28 from his four overs, including the dismissal of West Indies powerhouse Nicholas Pooran.

Mumbai eventually won the match by 48 runs, their second victory of the tournament. Meanwhile, the Kings XI Punjab have lost three of their four encounters in the competition to date.
