An image of Pat Cummins has gone viral after he was the victim of one of the most awkward trophy presentations cricket fans have seen.

There’s nothing like an awkward trophy presentation moment and the Cricket World Cup delivered another classic.

Australia pulled off a mammoth upset in the final, defeating India by six wickets in arguably the greatest ever victory in the history of ODI cricket.

It was Australia’s sixth ODI World Cup win and extended India’s drought of not winning an international ICC trophy since 2011.

Many Indian players left the field after shaking hands with the Aussies and couldn’t bear to stick around to watch Pat Cummins lift the trophy.

There was an awkward moment after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles congratulated Cummins and handed him the trophy.

The Australian captain was left standing all on his own for several agonising moments as he waited for his teammates to join him on the stage while fireworks went off in the background.

He then had to wait even longer as the politicians shook hands with the rest of the Australian team off the stage.

It’s safe to say social media had a field day with the hilariously awkward trophy presentation.

Cummins waited for his teammates to join him before lifting the trophy up in celebration.

It was Australia’s sixth ODI World Cup win after triumphs in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2016 — and arguably the sweetest of them all.

The host nation had won the previous three editions of the World Cup and it appeared India were destined to win at home after making an undefeated run to the final.

But Australia had other ideas. Cummins won the toss and elected to bowl on a tricky pitch in Ahmedabad and his bowlers were on song, restricting India to a sub par total of 240.

Travis Head took a superb running catch to dismiss Rohit Sharma after the Indian captain teed off for 47 off 31 balls.

Half centuries to Virat Kohli and KL Rahul weren’t enough as Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa all struck at regular intervals.

Head was the hero with the bat, scoring a matchwinning 137 off 120 balls to be named player of the match.

He combined with Marnus Labuschagne for a 192-run partnership that proved the difference in the end as Australia chased down the total with six wickets and 42 balls to spare after falling to 3/47 at one stage.

“What we’ve achieved today is unbelievable,” said Marnus Labuschagne, who made an unbeaten half century and combined with Head for a 192-run stand.

“It’s the best achievement I’ve ever been a part of.

“Just to come to India, you know, (they were) 10 from 10 with one to play — they’ve been the team of the tournament. They’ve played unbelievable.

“But you knew if we played our best cricket, we were a chance. And you know, our bowlers were sensational and then Travis put on a hell of a display and it was great to be a part of it with him.”

“We saved our best for last,” added Cummins, after leading Australia to a World Test Championship final victory, an Ashes retention and now a World Cup in the span of a few months.
