‘Fellatio technique’: An explanation of Marnus Labuschagne’s attempt to fix his batting grip

Viewers could only stare and wonder what Marnus Labuschagne was doing with his batting grip on day one at the SCG.

Marnus Labuschagne left himself wide open to internet jokesters by showcasing an unusual technique while fixing his batting grip in the Third Test.

After spending most of the day at the crease, the Aussie number three had some issues with the covering on his bat handle in the final session and … well, perhaps you should just see for yourself.

Most of the replies are understandably unsafe to print, but one person wrote: “The internet can totally be trusted to be mature about this.”

But given Channel 7 ran a package on the blooming bromance between Labuschagne and Steve Smith during its day one coverage, you can only imagine the jokes made about those two after this latest footage.

Cricket writer Geoff Lemon was told Labuschagne was using his mouth to help move the grip down the handle of the bat.

“It was explained to me you have to blow air under the bat grip to move it down, so that’s what he was trying to do,” Lemon told The Final Word podcast.

“Or at least that’s what he told his parents when they walked in on him.”

His co-host Adam Burnett described it as the “fellatio technique”.

The star duo resumed on day two with Australia at 2/166.

Smith showed terrific intent after joining Labuschagne on day one and ironically put it down to a tweak to his own grip.

“I was just trying to hold the grip a bit tighter,” he said. “I’ve been struggling, so I was getting into good positions today. It was good to get a couple of boundaries early. Marnus played well, hopefully we go along well tomorrow.”
