Brooke Warne has revealed new details on the 90-minute wait she endured after receiving a phone call about her father’s death.

Brooke Warne has revealed heartbreaking new details about the moment she first learned of her father’s death.

Australia was rocked on March 4, 2022, when the cricketing icon died of a heart attack on holiday in Thailand at the age of 52.

The Spin King’s children Brooke, 28, Jackson, 26, and Summer, 24, have supported each other through three years of grief.

Brooke this week shared more details about the tragic day in an appearance on Jackson’s “Warnes Way Podcast”, which was released on Monday.

“I have never spoken about this,” she told her brother.

“Not for one minute did I think something had happened to dad.”

She explained all three siblings were together when their father’s manager Andrew Neophitou called to tell them their father had suffered a heart attack.

She remembers she was with her boyfriend Alex, Jackson, her brother’s girlfriend Kiah and Summer — and were watching a movie on a Friday night when the phone call was made.

“We were having such a nice night... and you got the phone call from Neo (Neophitou),” Brooke said.

“We stood up, and I remember I couldn’t breathe,” Brooke said.

“And when you hear [something like] that … I felt like I had like this out-of-body experience.

“I didn’t think what was happening was happening.”

Jackson interjected during the conversation to say: “I said, ‘Dad’s had a massive heart attack’”.

The siblings and mother Simone Callaghan, who separated from the cricketing cult hero in 2007, then spent 90 minutes waiting for an update on their father’s health.

A second phone call eventually came through to share news medical staff were attempting to resuscitate their famous father.

It was only the following day when Warne’s father Keith rang to give them the tragic news.

“Pa said, ‘Simone, are you with the kids? Unfortunately, the doctors have done everything they could’, and that is when we started screaming,” she said.

Brooke went on to say their grandfather finished the message by saying: “But unfortunately Shane has passed”.

Brooke said she and Summer collapsed.

It did not take long for the tragic news to spread like wildfire and they were soon bombarded with calls and messages.

She confirmed during the podcast that there had been a period where she was not speaking to her father.

They patched their relationship back together before the cricketer’s death.

Acknowledging the date that marked two years’ since her father’s death, Brooke last year posted an emotional message on Instagram.

“2 years without you Dad,” she wrote.

“It’s been the slowest and quickest 2 years without you. I feel like you were just here being silly with us and talking about how good the new season of Peaky Blinders is, and we will watch the next episode together when you come home.

“Life really doesn’t make sense without you here.”

She went on to write: “We try and do you proud every day.

“I miss you, I love you forever.”

Jackson and Summer also posted on social media on the anniversary, along with Callahan.

“Forever in our hearts, we love you, we miss you,” Callahan wrote along with love heart emojis and the dates of his birth and death.

The three siblings have continued to lead the Shane Warne Legacy heart testing initiative.

The Shane Warne Legacy charity organisation has made it possible for spectators at the traditional Boxing Day Test at the MCG to undergo free health checks to promote heart health in honour of the cricket legend.

A new record was set at the 2024 Boxing Day Test with more than 13,000 people sitting for the four-minute health check.

She said after last year’s Test: “Our goal was to have 12,000 throughout the Test and we beat that on Day 3.

“It’s just been absolutely incredible. All we want is we don’t want people to have the phone call that we had.”
