The Brisbane Heat’s extraordinary Big Bash title win last season has been immortalised on the big screen.
A new documentary, Reignite: The Story of Brisbane Heat’s Epic Comeback, now showing at Event Cinemas, takes fans behind the highs and lows of the Heat’s dramatic surge to their second title.
It came off a base after fan support has been challenged by the departures of stars Brendon McCullum and Chris Lynn, forcing the team’s management to rebuild its culture from scratch in the 2022-23 season.

The players faced immense mental challenges as they fought to escape a pattern of disappointment, having missed the finals four times in five years before being beaten in the final by Perth Scorchers in 2022-23 then beating the Sydney Sixers in last years final.
“It was very hard to address the team as skipper when I felt deflated myself,” Brisbane captain Jimmy Peirson said of the 2022-23 season which began with two wins from nine games. “Before you knew it, five games had already passed, and we felt like it was happening again.”
The turning point in the season came with explosive performances from locals Josh Brown and Nathan McSweeney, the new skipper who questioned himself over whether he was up to the role, reigniting the Heat’s fighting spirit.

A three-game winning streak led them to the 2022-23 grand final, but the heartbreak of losing to the Scorchers left the team shattered.
“To be so close, and to put so much work and then to lose it, it took me a while to get over the loss. It took me the whole season,” said all-rounder Michael Neser, who had taken 26 wickets that season.
However, the pain only strengthened their resolve.
