Sydney Sixers’ Daniel Christian delivers blunt threat after mankad attempt

A Big Bash star lost his cool with an opponent on Sunday night as he delivered a blunt threat with the controversial dismissal.

The mankad isn’t going anywhere.

Bowlers across the country have had enough of batsmen attempting to sneak an extra yard or two before the ball has left their hands.

Sydney Sixers star Daniel Christian became the latest player to pull out the controversial dismissal when he did so against the Perth Scorchers on Sunday night.

Attempting to chase down 152 runs for the win, the Scorchers needed 17 runs from the final eight balls when Christian struck.

As he ran into the crease the 39-year-old stopped his action on the final stride and stared down English international player Stephen Eskinazi who at the time was unbeaten on 62.

“That’s your warning mate, that’s your warning,” Christian yelled.

But as the controversial moment from Christian unfolded, Australian great Mark Waugh was sceptical the Englishman had even left his crease early.

“Was he taking off early?” Waugh asked on Fox Cricket.

“I don’t reckon he was out of his crease, was he?”

Former Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin was left just as confused.

“He didn’t move, did he?” He asked.

Christian two deliveries later sent Andrew Tye packing as he bowled him with a slower ball as Eskinazi fell agonisingly short of leading the Scorchers to victory, unbeaten on 66, as the Sixers claimed the six run win.

It’s not the first time this season the mankad controversy has struck the Big Bash with Melbourne Stars’ Adam Zampa courting major controversy.

Zampa botched the attempt after the third umpire deemed it was not out because his bowling arm had gone “past the vertical”.

Despite the controversy that followed, Zampa said it won’t stop him from attempting the mode of dismissal in the future.

“There’s been a pretty good response to it to be honest,” he said.

“I copped it for a day or so, but every since then people are starting to come around to the fact it’s actually in the rules, which it is, in the laws of the game.

“I’ve been practising it. I’ve got it down pat now.”

It’s not just on Australian shores that the mankad is taking place.

During the under 19 women’s T20 World Cup Pakistan’s Zaib-un-Nisa sent Rwanda’s Shakila Niyomuhoza on her way in the final over.

Nisa perfectly executed the move and caught Niyomuhoza well out of her crease as the bails were sent flying.

The umpire’s finger went up and Rwanda’s innings finished at 7/106, a total which Pakistan chased down comfortably.

Pakistan opener Eyman Fatima was unstoppable as she scored an unbeaten 65 to lead her nation to the eight wicket victory.
