Josh Brown hits BEST BBL Innings of ALL TIME?! + Reacting to the Maxwell news

Last night we saw Josh Brown steer the Heat to an incredible victory over the Strikers to progress to the BBL13 Final. Read on and listen to the Cricket Today Podcast as the team breaks down the game and compares Josh Brown’s innings for the Heat to the best BBL hundreds of all time.

BEST BBL HUNDREDS OF ALL TIME

1. BBL13, 2024 - Josh Brown 140 (57) - Heat vs Strikers

Definitely some recency bias with this happening overnight, but Liam ‘Stats Guy’ McAllion was up and about on the Cricket Today Podcast this morning.

“Mr Stand and deliver was amazing: producing the equal second fastest BBL ton, the most runs ever in a BBL final and the most sixes in a BBL innings (12) is something out of this world.”

The Bison was phenomenal, demolishing the in-form Strikers spinners and to do it in the pressure of a huge Challenger Final is the main reason why he’s number one on this list.

2. BBL03, 2014 - Craig Simmons 102 (41) - Scorchers vs Strikers

It’s impossible to talk BBL 100s without covering the all-time fastest BBL ton from Craig Simmons, who sent the WACA crowd into a frenzy and inspired Josh Brown to his own stand-and-deliver approach.

The ‘Big Truck’ was unstoppable in this game, hitting sixes 360-degrees of the wicket and Simmons’ ton has to be right up there for all-time rankings as, even after 10 years, nobody in the BBL has broken his record.

3. BBL11, 2022 - Glenn Maxwell 154 (64) - Stars vs Hurricanes

If there are white ball records to be had, Glenn Maxwell’s name tends to pop up at the pointy end of the list.

Maxwell, of course, produced the biggest BBL score of all time back in 2022, using his insanely strong wrists and impressive reaction time to demolish the Hurricanes.

Maxi was so good that only one of the Hurricanes bowlers bowled their full four overs, with Hobart using eight different bowlers.

But as it turns out, no amount of change ups could stop him.

4. BBL06, 2017 - Ben McDermott 114 (52) - Hurricanes vs Renegades

Back in 2017, McDermott wasn’t as well-known and established as he is now as a superstar of the league, but his name on the map quickly, producing a famous BBL knock, including ramp shots, reverse hits and bombs down the ground.

This innings had it all.

Leo Mullaly talks up this innings as one of the greatest ever on the Cricket Today Podcast , saying “this helped the highest team chase of all time in the Big Bash, no one knew who McDermott was and he absolutely smoked them, lifting under huge pressure.”

The Canes were chasing 222 to win at Marvel Stadium against the ‘Gades and through Big Mac’s innings, were able to create the biggest run chase in BBL history.

5. BBL09, 2020 - Marcus Stoinis 147 (79) - Stars vs Sixers

Many people might believe that ‘The Stoin’ is unlucky to be at number five on this list, but the pressure was off the Stars in this game compared to a big chase or finals moment.

In saying that, the former Aussie international was unbelievable, producing some of the biggest boundaries ever hit at the MCG and all against a quality Sixers bowling attack who went on to win the title that season.

Stoinis’ innings was also topped off with his signature helmet on top of his hundred celebration, unique in world cricket.
