Bangladesh review ‘ridiculous’ LBW decision in 2nd ODI loss to England
The cricket world hasn’t stopped laughing at this ‘ridiculous’ review which prompted a unique response from the umpires.
Bangladesh have been savaged for what Test Match Special have called “the worst review in history” overnight, with social media in collective meltdown at the ‘ridiculous’ call to send it upstairs.
With England motoring along off the back of a Moeen Ali masterclass in short form batting, Taskin Ahmed had clawed some momentum back catching Ali’s leading edge with a low, straight full toss, popping high in the air and easily taken by Litton Das.

With Ali’s cameo at an end, Adil Rashid came to the crease to finish the England innings, and with his second ball, attempted to jam down on a yorker in what should have been a complete non-event.
However, in unbelievable scenes, Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal was talked into reviewing what sounded “very woody”, according to Cricinfo’s live commentary.

TV umpire Gazi Sohel didn’t bother looking at Ultra-Edge, seeing Rashid had smashed the cover off the ball, straight out of the middle of the bat on replays.
Social media was in immediate meltdown at one of the more comical moments in Bangladeshi cricket.
One Twitter user called it “ridiculous”, while another asked “what prize do Bangaldesh get for the worst LBW review call in the history of cricket?”
Another exclaimed “oh, my eyes!”

It would prove to not make much difference in the outcome of the match, with Rashid only adding two more runs in his contribution to England’s total of 326/7, the highest ODI total in Mirpur in five years, led primarily by a magnificent comeback ton from Jason Roy.
Roy put to bed conjecture around his batting form, described as “smoke”, to make 132 off 124 balls, taking Bangladesh’s left-arm spinners to the sword with the reverse sweep, and milking the right-armers with the conventional sweep.
“It was a plan (to sweep and reverse sweep) with the amount of turn,” Roy said on his innings.
“To go over point was the safest option for me.
“I tried to go over cover a couple of times, it was just too slow and too much spin.
“I think you had to keep your boundary options very simple.”

Bangladesh were skittled for 194 in reply, handing England the series and Bangladesh’s first home ODI series loss since England’s last visit in 2016/17.
With England’s ODI side in a constant state of flux and forced to take a back seat with an upcoming Ashes series ahead of a subcontinental World Cup campaign, the win demonstrated England are in no shortage of world-class aggressors that can put sides to the sword at will.
