Australia defeat Sri Lanka inside three days to win first Test

Australia put their foot down and never let up as they handed Sri Lanka an unwanted record in pure cricket carnage.

Australia have secured victory in the opening Test on day three by 10 wickets after blowing Sri Lanka off the park with the ball in hand.

Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Swepson and Travis Head wreaked havoc on the third day as the wicket offered miles of spin, much to the trios delight.

Lyon entered the top 10 wicket takers in Test cricket history, but it was Head who stole the show as he finished with figures of 4/10.

Sri Lanka's second innings came under heavy fire as they collapsed in only 137 deliveries - the shortest completed innings in cricket history.
