Wilson, a two-time Olympic gold medallist, was a key member of the Dolphins team for a decade and announced her pregnancy ahead of the Paris Olympics.
The Adelaide-based couple announced their engagement in October 2023 and revealed they were expecting their first child in February last year. Wilson gave birth to a baby boy called Austin last year.
Their wedding was attended by a who’s who of Australian swimming including Olympic champions Mollie O’Callaghan, Ariarne Titmus, Kaylee McKeown, Meg Harris and Lani Pallister.
Wilson wore a strapless white dress for the ceremony and Short sported a dapper ivory suit, tearing up as he saw Wilson walk down the aisle and they tied the knot.
The happy couple were inundated with well wishes and messages of congratulations, sharing footage of their special day, writing: “Mr & Mrs Short. A sneak peek into the best weekend of our lives. We can’t wait to share more.”
Bronte Campbell commented: “Sooo wonderful.”
Shayna Jack said: “Congratulations to you both!! You look incredible.”
O’Callaghan and Titmus commented: “Beautiful.”
Swimming Australia wrote: “Congratulations from all of us.”
Wilson said on Instagram: “Thanks for all the beautiful messages. Matt heads away for a month tomorrow so we are soaking in the day together.”
The 30-year-old announced her retirement from swimming in January, calling time on a stellar career in the green and gold.
“Swimming has been the biggest part of my life and my identity for the better part of nearly two decades,” Wilson said.
“It’s been the most incredible yet challenging and rewarding journey and I feel incredibly proud of the woman I’ve become and what I achieved throughout my time representing Australia.
“I remember the young girl I was, so inspired by the athletes I watched on TV and I hope I have been the same inspiration and role model for those who are coming next. I’m sad but ready to close this part of my life and move on to what life has next.”
Australian women’s cricket star Ashleigh Gardner also celebrated her wedding over the weekend.
The gun all-rounder got hitched to her longtime partner Monica. The couple shared a beautiful snap of their special day, looking loved up in a stunning green setting as they celebrated becoming “Mrs & Mrs Gardner.”
Gardner’s Australian teammate Phoebe Litchfield commented: “Ahhhhhhhhh.”
Cricketers including Jess Jonassen, Laura Wolvaardt, Sophia Dunkley, Alana King, Scott Boland and Trent Copeland wished the happy couple well.
