Andy Lee bowls the ‘worst delivery ever’ ahead of Big Bash game

Media personality Andy Lee has been ridiculed online by cricket fans following a nightmare moment at the MCG on Wednesday.

Kayo Bites: Melbourne Stars v Perth Scorchers

Andy Lee might just want to stick to supporting his teams from the stands.

The media personality was out in the middle of the MCG on Wednesday night to bowl the Celebrity First Ball ahead of the Big Bash game between the Melbourne Stars and Perth Scorchers.

Lee, an avid Stars fan, came in off a short run up and after his first attempt was cut short he strolled in and rolled the right arm over.

To put it nicely, the delivery didn’t go according to plan. If you want the truth … it was downright horrible.

The ball sailed through the Melbourne sky like a pigeon hovering over patrons waiting for a loose chip.

It stuck in the air so long it failed to come down and land on the pitch. The ball finally came out of orbit on the grass on the far side of the wicket.

Lee slipped a little as he delivered the attempt and, like any master of the craft, looked back at the wicket in disbelief as he hoped to put the blame of the failed delivery on anything but his own form.

Unfortunately fans weren’t buying it and stuck the boots into the Stars fan.

Geelong superstar Patrick Dangerfield said it was “in the competition for the worst delivery ever” and had dethroned Joel Selwood’s attempt from a few nights prior.

Lee responded to Danger’s brutal assessment, this time blaming his loafers for failing to give him the required grip.

“Should have worn the long spikes in my loafers. Didn’t quite get the grip on the front foot I was hoping for,” he wrote.

Selwood held the mantle for the worst first delivery, before Lee stole his crown, when he attempt to hit the stumps ahead of the Melbourne Renegades vs Perth Scorchers match on Sunday night.

Bowling to the Renegades mascot, Selwood’s ball went so wide of the stumps even the mascot didn’t bother swinging for it.

Sadly for the Stars things only got worse after Lee’s nightmare attempt as they were blown off the park by the Scorchers.

The Stars were embarrassed by the Scorchers, bowled out for 101 in 19th over after another deplorable batting display. Their third lowest score of all-time.

Despite taking three wickets, the Stars were never really in the game as the Scorchers romped home to a seven wicket win with 37 balls still remaining.

After missing the finals just once in the first nine seasons of the Big Bash and three-time runners up, the Stars have crumbled in recent seasons.

Seventh in 2020-21, sixth in 2021-22 and wooden spooners for the second time in their history in 2022-23, the Stars are already facing a nightmare in 2023-24.
