Australian cricketer Alyssa Healy has broken the world record for most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in T20 international cricket, with 92.

During Sunday’s match against New Zealand at Allan Border Oval, Healy snared two dismissals off Georgia Wareham’s bowling to overtake India legend MS Dhoni on the all-time list.

After completing a somewhat contentious stumping to remove Amy Satterthwaite for 30, Healy held onto a catch down the leg side to secure the wicket of Lauren Down and the world record.

The 30-year-old could have extended her tally to 93 if she had not missed a stumping off Jess Jonassen’s bowling later in the match.

Healy now holds three world records — last October, she smacked 148 not out against Sri Lanka at North Sydney Oval, the highest ever individual score in a women’s T20 international.

She also broke the Guinness World Record for the highest catch of a cricket ball in 2019.

The Aussie has also now boasts the most appearances by a wicketkeeper in T20I cricket with 99 caps, once again overtaking Dhoni.

“I had no idea about it. I was wondering why (commentator) Mel Jones was asking me about MS Dhoni,” Healy said.

“I thought it was a very strange discussion we were about to have. It’s obviously a nice individual accolade, but honestly, it reflects better on our bowling attack than myself. It just shows the strength of our bowling attack that we’ve had throughout my entire career.

“There’s a lot of stuff that you do as a wicketkeeper that goes unnoticed … I’m always really content when I come off the field and I’ve had a good day behind the stumps, and I feel like I had a great day behind the stumps today.”

Capping off a memorable day, Healy also scored 33 runs off 17 balls — including five boundaries and a six — during Australia’s run chase on Sunday.

The Australian women’s team has sealed their T20 series against New Zealand — their 10th consecutive series triumph in the game’s shortest format — winning by two eight wickets in Brisbane.

Wareham and seam bowler Delissa Kimmince each claimed three wickets as the White Ferns were restricted to 128 from their 20 overs. All-rounder Nicola Carey also grabbed a pair of stunning outfield catches to remove Amelia Kerr and Lea Tahuhu.

In response, Australia chased the total with 20 balls to spare, vice-captain Rachel Haynes topscoring with 40 off 31 balls.

Sophie Molineux was named Player of the Match for her economical bowling performance — the tweaker claimed 2/17 from her four overs, including the dismissal of New Zealand captain Sophie Devine.

“Soph is a world-class player, and she came out and hit the ball hard last game, so we knew it was going to be a really important wicket to get first up today,” Molineux said.

“It was a pretty good day for us … we’ve been bowling in the nets for a long time, so it’s just been good to get out here as a group and bowl in matches.”

Australia have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, and will look to secure a clean sweep on Wednesday afternoon at 1:45pm AEST.
