VICTORIAN defender Emily Mannix has been a late withdrawal from the Diamonds Camp as training partner, after being not cleared by medical staff.

The training camp that starts today and runs for the rest of the week at the Australian Institute of Sport, is the first time the Diamonds Commonwealth Games team comes together since their selection.

Mannix took a bump to the head in a pre-season friendly in February against the Queensland Firebirds and has been closely monitored by the Melbourne Vixens’ medical staff since.

Her return to full training is progressing well, however she did not obtain medical clearance for the camp.

NSW Swifts defender Sarah Klau has been called in as an invitee. It will be her first time in the Diamonds environment.

Klau was a member of the 2017 Australian Fast5 Netball World Series Team and has 22 national league appearances.

Diamonds Head Coach Lisa Alexander said Mannix could still take part in the Commonwealth Games preparation camp.

“All athletes are required to receive medical clearance to attend any Diamonds session,” she said.

“We will closely monitor Emily leading into the Commonwealth Games Preparation Camp in Mooloolaba.”

Australia opens its 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games campaign against Northern Ireland on Thursday April 5 before its remaining pool matches against Barbados (April 6), South Africa (April 8), Fiji (April 9) and Jamaica (April 11).
