Dual gold medallist Mack Horton laments ‘cruel world’ of professional swimming

DUAL gold medallist Mack Horton says he is feeling good on the Gold Coast but admits he wanted more out of his performance at the Games after getting a shock bronze in the 1500m event.

AUSTRALIA’S top swimmers are enjoying their down time on the Gold Coast after a stellar Commonwealth Games campaign.

The 10 swimming champs sponsored by Speedos gathered at The Darling pool yesterday for a group photo, thrilled with their efforts and happy to be in relaxation mode before training starts again for the Pan Pacific Masters.

Mack Horton, 21, told Games Confidential he was “feeling good” competition was over but that he wanted more out of his performance at the Games, after getting a shock bronze in the 1500m event.

“I’m feeling good, I’m super happy to be a part of the most successful swim team ever,” he said.

“Personally though you always want more.

“That’s the cruel world of professional swimming.”

Golden girl Ariarne Titmus, 17, who emerged as the queen of the pool during this year’s games, said she had her first meal outside the village yesterday morning and was looking forward to having a few more days off on the glitter strip.

“It was so nice to get out and just enjoy a nice meal,” she said.

“We’re just all relaxing, going out and celebrating our success in the pool.

“Nothing compares to the feeling of hitting that wall. It’s just so rewarding, overwhelming, and I guess a sense of relief now that it’s over.”

Aussie medallists Jack Cartwright, Emma McKeon and Elijah Winnington were some of the big names among the Speedos crew, finishing up their photo shoot before heading straight to an Optus function with Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt.
