HE may not be the kind of athlete you’re used to, but seven-month old sausage dog Brakkus has been training hard to one day win gold at the Commonwealth Games.
One of Instagram’s most patriotic pups, Brakkus is a mini dachshund “who thinks he’s really a big dog,” his owners and ‘trainers’, Steph and Michael Hatfield say.
The puppy from Perth has more than 600 followers and has taken on the Games spirit.
He celebrated the Opening Ceremony with fireworks, competed in weightlifting, swimming, table tennis, gymnastics, sprinting, hurdles, long jump and lawn bowls.
According to his Instagram page, Brakkus was disqualified from boxing because biting was not allowed.
When asked what Brakkus’ chances were, Ms Hatfield said he just might “win gold for cuteness.”
Despite all the hard work and training, Ms Hatfield says, “it’s all in good fun.”
“He’s really friendly with everyone and is always up for a belly rub”.
Keep an eye out for Brakkus, it won’t be too long before he’s fighting off the pupperazzi.
