Malcolm Turnbull has once again butchered the words to an Aussie classic
AFTER a massive social media backlash, the Prime Minister has once again butchered the lyrics to our unofficial national anthem. Take a listen if you dare.
WHEN Malcolm Turnbull messed up the words to ‘You’re The Voice’ earlier this week, the people had no mercy.
The John Farnham song is an Aussie classic. A semi-official national anthem. A musical treasure that can be justifiably belted out under any circumstance ... provided, of course, that you know the bloody words.
And there's our Prime Minister, caught out on camera with a clear lack of lyrical awareness at the Commonwealth Games on Tuesday night.

After the comical social media furore it sparked, you’d think he’d be tear-stainedly playing the song on repeat, vowing never to commit such a royal eff-up again.

Yeah, nah. Just a couple of days after the embarrassing footage of his song fail went viral, he messed it up again on 3AW radio.
When asked to recite the words to the song, Mr Turnbull laughed and ... well ... he tried his best.
As much as it hurts to directly transcribe this, it’s the only way you’ll get the feel for the thing:
“Well it’s ... it’s the ... there’s a good line in there for the Treasurer. Uh ... time to ... um ... was it ... uh ... time to ... uh ... time to ... ahhh, cripes! The bit about ... balancing the books. No ... time to ... no, looking down the barrel of ... no ... sons and daughters? No! There’s a — no — there’s a good line in there for the Treasurer!”
Host Neil Mitchell gently offered to help, asking whether it was the lyrics about looking “down the barrel of a gun”.
But that wasn’t it. And alas, he never actually managed to remember the line he was so earnestly grasping for.
If you can bring yourself to listen to it, here’s the audio:

Some loving advice for the PM: don’t take Farnham’s advice. From now on, sit in silence.
If you even get that reference.
