Our swim champions won’t lose any sleep ahead of Commonwealth Games
OUR medal-hungry Commonwealth Games swimmers are so serious about getting good sleep they’re bringing their own pillows to training camp, and one is even bringing her mattress topper.
“I CAN’T get by without my pillow,” is the universal refrain from Emily Seebohm and our medal-hungry Commonwealth Games swimmers.
Australia’s swimmers descended on Brisbane yesterday for a six-day training camp before the Games.
Sharpness in the water and unruffled sleep go hand-in-hand.
Backstroke duo Seebohm and Mitch Larkin, plus sprinters Cate and Bronte Campbell are taking no chances with accommodation at the Games village.
They arrived at their four-star Brisbane hotel on Sunday like teens heading to school camp.
“I take my own pillow to every big meet I swim at ... plus a mattress overlay this time,” Cate said.
For Seebohm, the recent trials at the Games pool at Southport were of huge value because backstrokers swimming in an outdoor pool have to get by without their usual bearings from the roof of an indoor complex.
“Every little advantage helps because there will be swimmers coming to the Gold Coast less accustomed to competing outdoors,” Seebohm said.
