Exams, root canal won’t stand in the way of swimmer Laura Taylor

SHE’S already had to skip university exams to compete on the Gold Coast, but 18-year-old swimmer Laura Taylor had to undergo another undesirable test on Sunday, and one that’s not proved ideal for her Games preparation.

SWIMMER Laura Taylor, 18, who is competing in the Commonwealth Games while on exam break from Bond University is having plenty of firsts in the athletes village.

On Easter Sunday it wasn’t tired muscles giving her grief but a sore tooth (no it wasn’t from too many eggs).

Her dad Jared, who hasn’t seen her daughter for a couple of weeks since the village lockdown, said it was the first time their laid-back daughter sounded a little on edge when she rang home from the camp on Easter Saturday complaining of a tooth ache.

“Sunday was the bad day and Easter Monday was the root canal. She’s back in for a check up today,” Taylor’s father told Games Confidential.

“She’s always been super calm, always enjoyed her sport and takes that attitude into the race. Even with this procedure she bounced straight back to her laid-back self.”

The family is hoping they get to give Taylor a sympathy hug tomorrow when they see her for the first time in weeks … but they won’t be taking her Easter eggs.

“Hopefully we get to see her tomorrow — we haven’t seen her for almost two weeks. She wants us to bring her some snacks — she’s hanging out for … almond butter. Apparently it’s not available in the village.”

Not seeing her daily at home is one thing, but Jared also works at Bond University so they’re used to bumping into each other on campus too where Taylor is studying a bachelor of exercise and sports science.
