Evan O’Hanlon wins men’s T38 100 metres while rocking a spectacular moustache

AUSSIE para sprinter Evan O’Hanlon has set Carrara Stadium alight with his win in the T38 100 metres final. But his performance was overshadowed by the gold medal-worthy moustache he was sporting, and it even has its own Twitter account.

WHEN you roll with a moustache like that it helps if you can back it up on the track and that’s exactly what Evan O’Hanlon has done.

The reigning world champion and five-time Paralympic champion sent Carrara Stadium into a frenzy with a dominant performance in the T38 100 metres final.

O’Hanlon showed why he’s been the world’s fastest athlete with cerebral palsy for some time with a clinical performance, bursting from the blocks to have the race at his mercy by halfway.

But it was the moustache he was sporting that stole the show.

The jaunty addition already has its own social media account and, following Monday night’s performance, it’s likely to gain a lot more followers in the days to come.

The minor medals went to South African duo Dyan Buis and Charl du Toit, while Australian Samuel Walker was sixth.

O’Hanlon, 29, has competed in the cerebral palsy classification for 12 years and had indicated coming in that the Commonwealth Games could be his swansong.

If it is he’s gone out with style particularly with the impressive facial growth that will take some beating in the fashion stakes.

The Canberra-based sprinter recently became a father and his new baby and wife, Czech Republic race walker Zuzana Schindlerová, were in the crowd last night.
