Bruce McAvaney inducted into TV Week Logies Hall of Fame

Commentary connoisseur Bruce McAvaney stole the show at the Logies with a speech for the ages after being inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Bruce McAvaney has stolen the show at the 2022 Logie Awards.

The sporting icon was given a standing ovation as he made his way to the microphone after being inducted into the TV Week Logies Hall of Fame.

McAvaney has delighted fans over countless years with his wizardry behind the microphone and he delivered once again on Sunday night after AFL legend Leigh Matthews announced the prestigious award.

“I am emotional but my voice is not as strong as it should be tonight,” he said.

“I wondered how I’d feel tonight when I walked up here. I feel a lot of love actually and a lot of warmth.”

He went on to thank the one person who had a “profound effect on his career”, his wife Annie.

“Gary Fenton and Gordon Bennett mentored me at Seven and introduced me to a young journalist, Anne Johnson who became my wife and has had a profound effect on my career. Annie, thank you,” he said.

Social media lit up like a Christmas tree after McAvaney was announced and the tributes continued to pour in as his speech unfolded.

Bruce McAveney took the Logies to another stratosphere with his speech.

An icon. A star. An inspiration. Arguably the 8th wonder of the world with his ability to inform and entertain with an infectious personality time after time.

McAvaney may have walked away from the AFL commentary box, but his Olympic’s days are far from numbered. Earlier in the evening he refused to give into retirement talk, saying he’s not done yet.

“I feel so enthusiastic at the moment,” he said.

“I’ll go for as long as I feel I can do them well.”
